DizzyD talks about Jabber as middleware. As I understand it, we could use Jabber to transport XML-RPC and SOAP messages. Instead of sending a procedure call to an IP address, or domain name, you’d send it to a Jabber user. This would allow us to design groupware applications that reach any desktop Jabber can get to, and it would allow you to move around. (You’d have to have the groupware software on every machine, though.)

Been playing around with some

Been playing around with some tools to collect and aggregate news from different sources on the web lately. NewsIsFree.com is one site that is pretty cool. You can customize pages that pull in information from a lot of other sites. Peerkat is another system based on Python that you can run on a local machine to create your own feeds. Supposedly, others can query your peerkat site to pull in your news listings if they want.

I admit that I’m a bit of an open source software nut. Linux, and other open source software products, are seeing a lot of use in the developing world.

I just stumbled across the Linux Bangalore/2001 conference website. Almost 3000 people are going to attend and it looks cool! Lots of nifty technology stuff has been coming out of India.
