Speaking of digital photos, here

August 27th, 2002

Speaking of digital photos, here are a couple of the faux finish paint job we’re putting on our dining & living rooms.

The fixtures and faceplates will eventually be black iron and we’ve got a bunch of stuff collected from my various travels that is going to be displayed so that the walls aren’t quite so bare.

I find that when I’m

August 27th, 2002

I find that when I’m able to borrow the office’s digital camera, I take a lot more pictures. It must be the immediate gratification of being able to view/print/email the photos. So I’m looking at buying a digital camera. Specifically a Canon PowerShot a40. Looks like a good value for the money.

Truth be told, I probably won’t buy it, but it sure is fun to dream.

Wow.. this has been great. I took Friday off last week and I’m taking Monday off as well. That gives me a four-day weekend. I haven’t had a real break since January, so this is way overdue and it feels goooooood.

John Robb’s Radio Weblog How to build an RSS digital dashboard using Manila and Radio (a low tech approach). The concept is simple. In addition to getting new posts from news sites and other weblogs, RSS feeds can contain data from corporate systems. Sales data, financial data, supply data, data from partner systems, etc. Using this method, employees could get up to the minute data from multiple applications on a single webpage — a personal digital dashboard.

dive into mark (another weblog

August 16th, 2002

dive into mark (another weblog I read) published a rant about tools that supposedly assist users finding syndicated content.

The whole idea is basically this: The web, and computers in general, are supposed to make life easier for us by automating routine & mundane tasks. If there are a number of websites you read regularly, wouldn’t it be nice if you had a tool that could automatically gather their content and bring it to you in one place? There is a technology called the Resource Description Framework (RDF) that supports this and there are tools like AmphetaDesk and FeedReader that know how to use RDF.

The big trouble is that 9 times out of 10 you have to know that a site supports RDF and you have to know where to find the RDF files. Mark’s point is that a site should tell you where to “autodiscover” its RDF files so that tools like AmphetaDesk and FeedReader can sleuth them out for you.

The interior decoration has begun.

August 10th, 2002

The interior decoration has begun. Today saw two coats of paint go on our dining room. Well, one coat of paint and one glaze. We’ve got another glaze to go on, trim to paint and then that room is done. Well, we need stuff to hang on the walls, but at least the walls are ready.
