Housecleaning

December 31st, 2002

Inspired by others, I’ve tried to clean up the HTML and CSS templates driving this site a little bit. It worked if there is no visible change. :-) What I fixed was only stuff a geek could love — I rearranged the CSS and HTML markup to eliminate useless and redundant tags, refactored things out a bit, marked up lists properly, etc.

Ok, so I was bored. Shoot me.

Pioneer 10 signal received

December 28th, 2002

CNN.com – A distant Pioneer whispers to Earth – Dec. 19, 2002

NASA engineers picked up a radio signal this month from the first spacecraft to fly beyond Pluto.

This is just amazing! I remember being fascinated by the pictures that came back from the Pioneer and Voyager probes and trying to fathom the distances that were involved. Wow.

What a laugh! From tantek: Respecting myths as a part of human culture

There is a lot of unnecessary conflict as a result of people arguing about whose mythology is right or wrong, or trying to mix science and mythology in order to prove that a particular myth is correct or incorrect…

The most recent example of this was when a Vicar told children Santa is dead. He also said it was scientifically impossible for Father Christmas to deliver so many presents and that reindeer would burst into flames if they had to travel at the speeds necessary.

Does anyone else see the irony of a person, who believes in a mythical supreme being, scientifically refuting the existence of Santa Claus’ gift deliveries?
