Back in town
So I’m back after another long series of flights. As soon as my body figures out whether it is day or night, I’ll post one last set of pictures.

The river gets pretty busy here:
Even with all the traffic on the river (most of the boats you see are water taxis) there’s still a lot of pollution in the city. Check out this haze and you can also get an idea of just how big this city is:
Barges head up and down the river most of the day. When they go downriver, they’re full:
And when they go upriver, they’re empty and you can see just how much they fill them:
I took a poor-man’s cruise today and rode the water taxi up-river a ways. It was cheap, and there was a lot to look at as we motored by houses, docks, restaurants and temples. No photos from that, but I’m sure I’ll be on the river again tomorrow.
From the local paper this morning:
“The apparent 50/50 split in American politics is just another signpost of their ongoing Civil War and supports suggestions that the present misdirected effort against terrorism is really just another scene in the ongoing drama of America’s war against itself.
“The country’s steady advance to the rear of global opinion and warfare tactics in the context of a Global Guerrilla War must leave hardened fighters like Osama bin Laden laughing. This enemy has gained much by doing ittle while America wearies from chasing shadows.
“Describing this president as a strong leader reminds me of the strong leaders I saw in Vietnam, prepared to tak eany reckless course, oblivious to the ambushes, unaware of the options. ‘Bring ‘em on,’ they said, as they charged into history. For myself, in Vietnam I came to prefer smart.
“Four more years of Bush can only mean endles years of the same bad news and the same bad choices.
“Mr. Don, Koh Samui”
Made it after a very long series of flights. Pretty full flights, too.
I just woke up, and peeked out the window. First impressions? The pollution here is bad. Real bad. The haze hanging over the city is really something. I’ll step outside later and see what’s what.
Now, off to breakfast.
I’m off again tomorrow on another trip. This time to Asia. Long flights to & from, but a new part of the world to see!
