Busy February coming up

Busy February coming up

I know it’s been months since I’ve posted. Oh well, sometimes there’s just not much to say and other times priorities differ. That’s about it.

Coming up next month, it’s going to be busy again. I’m designing sound for the Hexagon show and we load in to the theater in late Feb. Just before that, I’m headed off to Botswana for a short week at a workshop, and before that I’m giving a presentation at another workshop here in town.

Starting with the local workshop, I’ve been working to pair down two hours worth of content to its essence, because I have just about 20 minutes in which to present my piece. That mean heavy reliance on a handout with lots of essentials and reference citations. Easy enough, right? Remember Mark Twain’s old saw that said, “I’d have written you a short letter but I didn’t have the time.” Well, I have a new appreciation for that!

On Feb 10 I get on the plane again for Botswana. Once more I’m flying through South Africa, this time on a direct flight from Dulles that should have me in Jo’burg in only 15 hours. Then after a short layover, it’s a quick hop to Gabarone. I’m there on a Sunday. Thursday afternoon, it is back to Jo’burg and then to DC. Now that the carryon rules have changed, I intend to spend my short layover on the return trip buying a little South African wine to bring home and enjoy.

Hexagon, D.C.’s original political satire show, goes up on the first weekend of March. Before that time, I have to get the sound system built out; basically that means microphones installed and wired, the house equalized against feedback, and any necessary sound effects recorded and fiddled with. I’ve got great help for this because I certainly couldn’t do it alone. The show should be good this year as there’s no shortage of material. The title is “Strike While the Irony’s Hot” and will run through the month of March.

I intend to definitely write some stuff while I’m in Botswana. I’ll also try to get picture, etc. Hopefully more to come!
