Editorial in local paper

From the local paper this morning:

“The apparent 50/50 split in American politics is just another signpost of their ongoing Civil War and supports suggestions that the present misdirected effort against terrorism is really just another scene in the ongoing drama of America’s war against itself.

“The country’s steady advance to the rear of global opinion and warfare tactics in the context of a Global Guerrilla War must leave hardened fighters like Osama bin Laden laughing. This enemy has gained much by doing ittle while America wearies from chasing shadows.

“Describing this president as a strong leader reminds me of the strong leaders I saw in Vietnam, prepared to tak eany reckless course, oblivious to the ambushes, unaware of the options. ‘Bring ‘em on,’ they said, as they charged into history. For myself, in Vietnam I came to prefer smart.

“Four more years of Bush can only mean endles years of the same bad news and the same bad choices.
