All these photos were taken on Fuji Pro 400h.

Of course I’m only showing photos here that I like. Not surprisingly I have more than a few that didn’t quite come out as planned (at least not as scanned by my local lab).

The idea is to have your subject, a slightly larger dark thing (I used a t-shirt draped over books) behind the subject, and then a large light source behind it all.

Setup for dark field lighting. The flash is on the floor under the table, aimed at the large white card.

The smaller v-cards in front of and to the side of the subject just give something to reflect. They don’t really act as fill, but rather are there to generate the vertical highlights you can see on the glass and stem.

Later, I used a similar technique to light a unique vertical Seder Plate that is a combination of metal and glass.
